Acts 16 verse 1-3


ACTS 16 verses 1 - 3

(1)   And he [Paul] came down to Derbe and Lystra.  And behold, a certain disciple named Timothy was there, the son of a certain believing Jewish woman------but his father was Greek.

(2)    This one being testified of by the brothers in Lystra and Iconium.

(3)   Paul desired this one to go forth with him, and taking him he circumcised him, because of the Jews being in those places------for they all knew his father, that he was a Greek.

Retranslation (1):  The one in whom mortal appearance has been seen to be a lie, and in whom mortal reasoning and speaking is restrained, comes down to those (remaining in mortal bonds) in Asia Minor. 

Look and learn! A pupil is there whose character is dear to God. He had paid down his debt through the sacrifice of false belief in himself as a mind in opposition to God, the ONLY Mind. He now has spiritual dominion and is a prince of peace (heaven) with spiritual power. No longer full of pride, he is an empty vessel, of use to our Father, precious and esteemed. 

He is the son of a trustworthy consecrated woman who has assented to and obeys the Truth, but his father did not know the Truth.

Retranslation (3):  Paul, the one who has seen the Truth, and thus in whom mortal existence is seen to be a lie, and who now restrains himself from speaking mortal lies, delights in Timothy (in things precious to God!), who also restrains himself from mortal speaking, having somewhat paid his debt to God, and thus is of use to God, and precious to God; and Paul chooses Timothy to associate with as he spreads abroad God’s meaning.

Paul spiritually assays Timothy, completely piercing through the veil of mortal mind, because of the (non-spiritual) condition of the Jews who all believed Timothy’s father was a non-Jew.

Does Timothy’s name mean “to pay a price”?
