Acts 7 verse 51

Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.    (KJV)

Stiffnecked and uncircumcised in the heart and in the ears, you always fell against the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so you also did.    (IB)

Retranslation:  You who are parched! You resist the baptism of repentance (water)! You whose ears hear no thunder! Your minds are uninspired! Regularly you follow your rules and established modes, but these you use instead of the furniture in the Tabernacle! Just like your fathers. There is no communion without sacrifice!

NOTE on “circle”:  I have wondered if this reference to a circle, marching in a circle, circuit, has to do with reasoning. In logic, one goes from premises, e.g. God is All, God is good, to conclusion, therefore, all is well. It’s a type of circle.

On the other hand, “giddy” comes from the same root as the word “God”. Gid is a disease affecting sheep, a notable symptom being the animal’s tendency to run about in circles until it falls. Giddy, silly, mad, derives from Old English gydig, mad: literally possessed by a god. Compare, semantically, enthusiastic, divine possession or inspiration, to be god-inspired, from entheos, en, in + theos, a god.

Spirit 4151 pneuma, from 4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ’s spirit, the Holy Spirit:-----spirit, spiritual, spiritually, mind, life, ghost.
