Acts 7:6
And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years. (KJV)
And God spoke thus, that his seed would be a sojourner in another land, and they would enslave it and oppress it four hundred years. (IB)
Genesis 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years. (also repeated in Gal 3:17.)

Retranslation: And God talked about Abraham’s budding receptivity to government by reason; that this receptivity would dwell in a foreign land, adverse to reason: mortal mind and its beliefs; and that the false beliefs of that land (the false ego) would enslave and oppress him “until he repented of such lies.”*
*Year. A solar measurement of time; mortality; space for repentence.
“One day is with the Lord as a thousand years.” (II Peter iii.8.)
One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a foretaste of eternity. This exalted view, obtained and retained when the Science of being is understood, would bridge over with life discerned spiritually the interval of death, and man would be in full consciousness of his immortality and eternal harmony, where sin, sickness, and death are unknown. Time is a mortal thought, the divisor of which is the solar year. Eternity is God’s measurement of Soul-filled years.”
SH p. 598:19.

thus 3779 houto, or (before a vowel), houtos, adverb from 3778; in this way (referring to what precedes or follows):-----after that, after (in) this manner, as, even (so), for all that, like, likewise, no more, on this fashion, on this wise, so (in like manner), thus, what.
NOTE on “thus”: “Thus” (Gr. houto) is a word of logic: a statement of a premise (God is All) precedes what follows. “What follows” is a necessary consequence of the premise. God is all; therefore, all is well. God is Mind; Mind is Spirit; Spirit is infinite (premises); therefore, “in this manner,” mind is not finite-matter-brain.

In compounds it retains the same variety of applications:------above, against, among, at, before, by, contrary to, friend, from, give [such things as they], that [she] had, his, in, more than, nigh unto, (out) of, past, save, side . . . by, in the sight of, than, fore, therefore, with.

entreat evil 2559 kakoo, from 2556; to injure; figuratively to exasperate:-----make evil affected, entreat evil, harm, hurt, vex.
2556 kakos, apparently a primary word; worthless (intrinsically such; whereas 4190 properly refers to effects), i.e. (subjectively) depraved, or (objectively) injurious:-----bad, evil, harm, ill, noisome, wicked.
four hundred 5071 tetrakosioi, neuter, tetrakosia, plural, from 5064 and 1540; four hundred:---four hundred.
NOTE: I believe the number “4” is a complete number, meaning that it is sufficient in the context in which it occurs. Thus, it takes “as long as it takes.” How long does it take to repent? Perhaps, when God-like thoughts rule consciousness, time is no longer divisible by years; perhaps experience is seamless, streaming, and mortal measurements are no longer appealed to to give evidence of anyone’s state or condition.
years 2094 etos, apparently a primary word; a year:-----year.
