Thank you for visiting Pam's Bible Word Study Blog!

Sorry this is such a big file (about 75 pages). I started studying Acts weeks ago before I considered publishing this blog. Chapters 1 and 2 represent about six week's study. From here on, I'm going to try to create new blogs each day with just the verses I studied that day. That way you can add your input closer to the verse(s) about which you are commenting.
I wrote the original on my home computer and copied into this program, and some weirdness obviously resulted. Things should improve as I learn this program.
When I started studying Acts, I didn't type the entire contents of Strong's definitional entries, only what I considered pertinent at the time. I am correcting this error in future blogs.
The numbers are from Strong's Concordance and the definitions are from the Greek (and in a few places from the Hebrew) dictionaries in the back of Strong's Concordance.
Quite quickly I abandoned random comments. The material spoke so well on its own. Text labeled "THOUGHTS" memorialized new comprehension for me. Take it or leave it.
And tongues as of fire appeared to them were being distributed;
ACTS: Chapter 2
Acts 2:1
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. (KJV)
And in the fulfilling of the day of Pentecost, they were all with one mind in the same place. (IB)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Retranslation: And when they gave themselves wholly to the perfecting of the Law (I AM ALL), atonement was superimposed, sacrifice achieved, the SELF realized.
In other words, they were clothed (superimposed) with the Mind of God. Just like we seem to be clothed with matter through the matter-mind, relaying information from the matter-senses, so we are clothed with Spirit through the Spirit-Mind’s spiritual senses?
--------------------------------------------
In 1722 es, through, inwardly, with, GIVE SELF WHOLLY TO, . . . )
They were really “in” to it!!! Acts 1:11 “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication . . . “ In other words, they gave themselves wholly to the fufilling of the law
So, what does it mean to give yourself wholly to the fulfilling of the law???
. . . to be imbued with the law??
fulfilling 4845, sympleroo, union, completeness, satisfaction, execution, imbuing, furnishing, perfection
What is the law??? The Hebrew “Torah???”
MBE says “God’s law is in three words: I AM ALL.” (No and Yes 30:11)
Pentecost (4005 pente 50th) Festival commemorating the day God gave the law to Moses. Passover commemorated physical freedom from the Egyptians, and 50 days later (7 sabbaths = 49 days + 1) Pentecost commemorates freedom from the bondage of idolatry through the law.
they were all with one accord 3661, homothymadon from 3674 and 2372; unanimously, with one accord (mind).
. . . 3674 homos, at the same place or time; together
. . . 2372 thymos, from 2380; passion (as if breathing hard)
. . . 2380 thyo, to rush (breathe hard, blow smoke), i.e. to sacrifice; to immolate
I love how this word, homothymodon, suggests togetherness and the effort ("breathing hard") of sacrifice. Unity with God comes at an expense: the sacrifice of all mortal thinking, the sacrifice of mortal ego, the sacrifice of the "I" that says it has broken away from God and is separate.

day 2250 hemera, . . . figuratively a period (always defined more or less clearly by the context).
3,000 According to Lynne Bundensen in “The Feminine Spirit” (page 15 and 16),
“References to the “third day” appear throughout the Bible and indicate a change between the historical story-in-time and the spiritual present in-the-beginning time. As you stay alert to the third day in biblical texts, you will see that when that day is mentioned the story moves into another dimension.”
Perhaps all uses of “3” and not just the word “third” share this meaning. Certainly in this context where the souls are baptized, or immersed in Spirit, they would seem to be “moving into another dimension” or state of consciousness, certainly a state of consciousness more closely aligned to the divine.

4102 pistis from 3982; persuasion, i.e. credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious leader), especially reliance upon God for salvation; abstractly constancy in such profession; by extension the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself:----fidelity, assurance, faith, belief, believe.
3982 peitho a primary verb; to convince (by argument, true or false); by analogy to pacify or conciliate (by other fair means); reflexive or passive to assent (to evidence or authority), to rely (by inward certainty):-----make friend, have confidence, trust, yield, be (wax) confident, obey, persuade, agree, assure.
faith: [L. fidere, to trust; Gr peithesthai, to have trust or confidence; Gr peithein, to persuade; L. infidelitas (e. infidelity, unfaithful [adulterer]); L. fiducia (E. fiduciary); L. confidere (int con-) to have trust or confidence, yields to confide; L. diffidere (E. defy, defiant, to renounce or abandon trust or faith); L. affidare, to give or swear faith to, make an oath (E. affidavit, affiance, pledge to marriage)]
Can mortal mind “believe”? Can it have trust in Something outside its universe of matter? If mortal mind cannot, in good conscience, believe in Something outside its universe of matter, who or what believes?
God is the ONLY Mind. So what is believing in God? An unreal mortal so-called mind? Can an unreal mind believe? Can an unreal mind define the word “belief”? Can an unreal mind “trust”? No. No. No. And No. So this activity called “believing” must belong to divine Mind. Divine Mind believes, trusts, and has faith in Itself. This is surely true. So, we, as ideas of the ONLY Mind, are experiencing God’s, Mind’s, trust and confidence in Her own Self. We, as ideas, experience only what the Mind creates for us to experience or reflect. So, we could say that our belief in and trust of God exists because God believes in and trusts Herself. Therefore, belief and trust are not now, nor have they ever been, nor will they ever be, dependent on human, material, finite circumstances. I know that everything true or real comes from God and is merely expressed in Man. Mind is not dependent upon Its ideas; but, Mind maintains Its ideas, precious and beloved, in the All of Spirit in timeless eternity. Mortal mind is not my mind. I do not have to worry if my mind has enough faith or trusts God enough. I can know that I am the reflection of God’s trust in Herself. I can know that God is not a mystery to Herself, and, therefore, as Her reflection, I am not confused as to what She is. I can know that as God’s beloved effect, I am fully capable of experiencing spiritually rock-solid, satisfying trust and confidence in God. As God glories in and reflects on Herself as All-that-really-is, I, as Her “reflection” can know only Her infinite satisfaction with Herself, Her trust and confidence in Her tender, almighty power, and unspeakable love.

- To part with, to renounce, to forsake.
“Buy the truth and sell it not.” Proverbs 23.
THOUGHTS: The Pentecostal Experience is like traveling to a whole new world, beyond anything you could image. Naturally, upon seeing God and the self as they really are, one sells old beliefs in matter-based identity and matter-based reality----all former possessions and goods.
The former possession (“existence,” see below), the great Satan, material personality, owns the matter-world and all that is therein. This satanic possession, rehearsed from the beginning, not of God but of Adam, comes into existence-possession through birth, and self-destructs through death.
The Pentecostal experience, receiving God’s law---I AM ALL---- directly from God, gives us the experience which allows us to “pierce” Adam’s boundaries, advance Spirit-ward, “travel beyond” matter-based-reality.
By going into this country, the “promised land,” one experiences Christ---unity with God--- the solution to the Adam-Veil: possession of the Mind of God wherein we understand all that is real through our image-hood as “children” of Mind.

has derivative potsidere, L. possidere, lit. to sit (sidere, sedere) as master of, i.e. to be master of property, with modification possidere, to make oneself master of, to occupy, . . .(1828 dict. def.): to own, to hold, to occupy, to have, to have power over, to seize, to gain.
Posse, para 1, . . . L. posse, to have power, lit. to be able: from a PL root pot-, originally ‘a master, a possessor of,’ hence ‘having, esp. exercising one’s ability or mastery or power,’ . . . With L. potis, master or possessor of, cf Skt patis, master, husband, and Gr posis, husband . .
Estate (1828 dict. def): 1. In a general sense, fixedness; a fixed condition;
- Condition or circumstances of any person or thing, whether high or low;
- Rank or quality.
Estate (Origins dict.): See STAND, para 15.
Stand, para 15 (Origins dict.): By far the most important L. derivative of pp status is the noun status, the way one stands, attitude, hence condition, position (esp. political, hence also social) . . .
THOUGHTS: What are my possessions? What is my estate? What is present to me? What is at hand? What has come into existence for me? What is my condition? What in me is “fixed”? What is my position?
If matter-based-personality answers, it might say, “I am white, and in the majority, and therefore right on most occasions. I have a bar of gold, but I would like to be richer. I have good friends, but some enemies that live in other countries that worry me. I am pretty calm, but some things can rile me up, some things disgust me, some make me sad. I am happy most of the time, but never really satisfied with my life. I wish I knew more about God.
Luke puts these words into the mouth of Peter (the Rock), who stands metaphorically as the Christ: “Sell your possessions and estate!”

L. dissentire, to be of a different feeling or opinion, becomes dissension, disagreement.
all 3956 pas (see above) every one
according as 2530 kathoti from 2596 and 3739 and 5100; according to which certain thing, i.e. as far as (or inasmuch as):-----according as, forasmuch as, because, because that.
2596 kata,a primary particle; (preposition) down (in place or time), in varied relations (according to the case with which it is joined). In compounds it retains many of those applications, and frequently denotes opposition, distribution or intensity:----
3739 hos, including the feminine he, and the neuter ho, probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relative (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:-----one, other, another, the other, that, what, which, who, whom, whose. See also 3757.

THOUGHTS: Can I ‘sell’ my consciousness of God, my Pentecostal experience? Yes and No. I ‘offer’ it to another----Truth, like numbers, is infinite, and if I give it away through silent prayer or audibly “preaching,” I am not depleted. The “cost” to me is merely the possibility of rejection or ridicule (whipping or death by stoning in the old days.)
The offer is a whole new version of reality. Since opposites, by definition, cannot commingle, the recipient can “buy” this new estate of the Holy Ghost (the sacred spirituality) in one way, and one way only: with a “sacrifice” of the old estate----the ‘opposite’ of the new that cannot be held simultaneously. This is the meaning of the “blood of the lamb.” Belief in human blood (bones, brain, etc.) are the only payment acceptable (to God) for this purchase. Expensive to say the least! But not impossible. A life-long struggle? Yes. So be it. God help me! Open my eyes! I belong to You, not my belief in my matter-body-matter-world.
Acts 2:46
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, and . . . (KJV)

THOUGHTS: Zacharia (John’s father) is a temple priest. His name in Hebrew means both male and incense. His job is to stand before the altar and burn incense. The altar of incense represents the last step in purification before entering the holy of holies where complete union with God occurs. The smell of the incense fills the temple. The sweet-smelling savor of self-sacrifice. Could the incense be our most treasured matter-related-beliefs? When these burn, the smell is sweet to God.
homo = “together” + at the same time and place [Acknowledging at-one-ment]

The Cross and Crown is the symbol of Christian Science. Is the Passover the cross, representing sacrifice before we see the promised land; and Pentecost is the crown, the giving of the law:
DO YOU SEE HOW I AM ALL?????
I AM GIVING YOU THE EXPERIENCE OF THE LAW:
I AM ALL!!!!!
PROMISE FULFILLED.

Shavu'ot, the Festival of Weeks, is the second of the three major festivals with both historical and agricultural significance (the other two are Passover and Sukkot). Agriculturally, it commemorates the time when the first fruits were harvested and brought to the Temple, and is known as Hag ha-Bikkurim (the Festival of the First Fruits). Historically, it celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, and is also known as Hag Matan Torateinu (the Festival of the Giving of Our Torah).
The period from Passover to Shavu'ot is a time of great anticipation. We count each of the days from the second day of Passover to the day before Shavu'ot, 49 days or 7 full weeks, hence the name of the festival. See The Counting of the Omer. The counting reminds us of the important connection between Passover and Shavu'ot: Passover freed us physically from bondage, but the giving of the Torah on Shavu'ot redeemed us spiritually from our bondage to idolatry and immorality. Shavu'ot is also known as Pentecost, because it falls on the 50th day; however, Shavu'ot has no particular similarity to the Christian holiday of Pentecost, which occurs 50 days after their Spring holiday.
It is noteworthy that the holiday is called the time of the giving of the Torah, rather than the time of the receiving of the Torah. The sages point out that we are constantly in the process of receiving the Torah, that we receive it every day, but it was first given at this time. Thus it is the giving, not the receiving, that makes this holiday significant.
Shavu'ot is not tied to a particular calendar date, but to a counting from Passover. Because the length of the months used to be variable, determined by observation (see Jewish Calendar), and there are two new moons between Passover and Shavu'ot, Shavu'ot could occur on the 5th or 6th of Sivan. However, now that we have a mathematically determined calendar, and the months between Passover and Shavu'ot do not change length on the mathematical calendar, Shavu'ot is always on the 6th of Sivan (the 6th and 7th outside of Israel. See Extra Day of Holidays.)
Work is not permitted during Shavu'ot.
